Transcript for "What’s New in Spotfire® 14.8: Advancing Visual Industrial Analytics": Hello, everyone, and welcome to today's webinar, what's new in Spotfire 14.8, advancing visual industrial analytics. We're thrilled to have you with us today. I'm Jean-Philippe Richard Charman, and I'll be your host for today's session. Now before we get started, I just wanted to cover a few housekeeping items to ensure that you have the best experience with us today. The webinar will last for up to around forty five minutes with a ten to fifteen minute Q and A segment that will be held at the end of the session. If you have any questions during the presentation, please do not hesitate to use the Q and A panel located on the right side of your screen, and we'll address as many questions as we can during the Q and A segment. After today's session, a recording of today's webinar will be available on demand. We'll email you the link to that shortly after the event. Now with that, let's dive right in. I'm excited to introduce our presenter today, Arnaud Varin, our principal product manager here at Spotfire. And with that, I leave it to you, Arnaud. Thanks, Jean-Philippe. All right. Welcome, everyone. As usual, before before we look at what's new, let me briefly restate what Spotfire stands for. Spotfire is the visual industrial analytics platform for engineers, domain experts, and scientists. It's not just dashboards or visualizations. Spotfire is a combination of advanced analytics, highly domain specific visuals, and AI to solve complex industry problems based on data. And our vision for Spotfire comes down to three principles. First, human centered. We designed Spotfire for how engineers, domain experts, scientists, sync and work using interactive visualizations with advanced analytics to accelerate their discovery and decision making. Second, AI powered, we use and expose AI as a way to amplify the expertise. Our aim here is to use AI and machine learning to surface insights quicker, while keeping the engineers and domain experts firmly in control. Third, enterprise scale. Spotfire enterprise customers run Spotfire in environments where thousands of specialists depends on it every day for critical decisions. That means Spotfire has to be secure, governed, and scalable. And these three pillars guides and drive everything we do, anchored on people, engineers, powered by AI and built for enterprise scale. With Spotfire 14.8, we continue to enhance Spotfire Analytics and Spotfire Industry Pro, while ensuring frictionless deployments and governance for Spotfire Enterprise. And today's What's New content touches all three parts of the platform with a focus on deeper insights, faster workflows, and stronger enterprise foundations. Let me start with Spotfire Analytics. Spotfire Analytics is the Spotfire products most of you know about, used across many industries to explore and understand data, and build and deploy analytics applications with interactive visuals and advanced analytics. Starting with 14.8 the new visualization properties experience becomes the default visualization altering experience, both in the web client and in the installed clients. That's quite an important milestone for you, users, and for Spotfire. As you know, over the past several releases, we've gradually introduced these new properties experience alongside the classic dialogues. And now we are making the new panel the standard starting point for configuring visualizations. This new way of authoring visualizations represents a more modern, contextual, and scalable way of configuring visualizations. Configuration happens in a consistent panel. It feels lighter, more fluid, and it's better aligned with modern UI expectations with quicker configuration of multiple visuals and quick drag and drop between visualization properties. Now for Windows client users, flexibility remains. Users and administrators can still switch back to the classic properties dialog if needed. In 14.8, we are also enhancing Trelease ergonomics in two ways. First, if you ever analyzed dense Trelease views like for Trelease waveform maps for instance, selecting all data points in one Trellis panel, you had to manually box select them. And this could end up being slow, sometimes error prone, and hard to repeat consistently. So the first enhancement we are making to Trellis is that you can now simply click the Trellis panel header to instantly mark all the data points within that panel. You can use control and shift keys to mark multiple panels, and I use as usual in Spotfire, marked data propagates automatically across all the linked visualizations. The second enhancement to Trellis is about paging. Users often need to review Trellis panels group by group. For instance, reviewing all wafers within a lot, all units within a batch, or all products in a category. Previously, panels from different groups could appear mixed together in a single grid. Now with SpotSwaplayer 14.8, you can assign a column to a page in the Trellis layout, which means that only Trellis panels from one group appear per page. Both of these enhancements to Trellis, one click marking and paging per group, will drastically accelerate workflows when you need to compare many dense Trellis panels. And these enhancements to trellis work across all visualization types that support trellising. Next, we have a new visualization for process mining scenarios, this is the process map visualization. Designed to visualize process flows, it displays tasks and dependencies between them, showing how activities connect within a process. And you can use this visualization to explore sequence of tasks, transitions between steps, patterns, and variations in execution passes, making these relationships visually accessible and therefore easier to interpret. Now Collune Management, last year we modernized Collune Management in Spotfire and moved everything into the Data and Analysis panel to provide a more intuitive and a more focused environment for column level operations. And we received and listened to feedback from our users, direct feedback that we deliver in this release as well as part of the service pack for SPOT VIR 14.6 NGS. The first enhancement addresses discoverability. When we moved everything into the Data and Analysis panel, we removed the Data Column Properties menu entry and some users struggled to find column details after upgrading. The feature was not gone, but it was harder to discover. So we are restoring these familiar entry points. When you click it, it simply opens the columns details view in the data and analysis panel, where you can make the change you want to the column. Next enhancements to column management is about efficiency. In earlier versions, inserting columns required leaving the data and analysis panel. So even though we consolidated column management there, you still had to jump out of the panel to insert new columns. In Fortune eight and Fortune six LTS service pack, you can insert calculated, binned, and hierarchy columns directly from within the data and analysis panel. So everything related to column management happens in one focused workspace. The next enhancement is about clarity, especially when working with wide datasets. In many analyses, you may insert many columns as part of your analysis workflows and when working with large tables, it may become difficult to quickly find which columns came from the data source, and which columns were created during the analysis. So in fourteen point eight and fourteen point six LTS, inserted columns are now clearly identified from the column list directly using pictograms. You can immediately recognize which columns were created in Spotfire versus those coming from the data sources directly. And related to that, another enhancement to column properties is the ability to sort columns by type in the data and analysis panel. Same problem as before, as analysis grows, column lists often include a mix of imported, calculated, bin, hierarchies, and those are column types. So in 14.8, columns can now be sorted by column types. So you can make derived columns immediately findable without having to switch to the data canvas to find them. Next, with data connections, as you know, with every release of Spotfire, we modernize our data connectors. This time in Spotfire, the Spotfire, the SAP HANA connector benefits of a unified experience for creating and managing connections through a user experience that is consistent across the web and desktop clients. And this also includes new custom connection properties that offers deeper control of our performance and tuning over some driver specific behaviors. My two next items are more developer centric, but ultimately they will directly impact what Spotfire users will experience in future visualization modes. In Spotfire, if you remember in December, we introduced support for multiple static data views in visualization modes. With Spotfire, we go a significant step further by enabling developers to build custom visuals that lets end users dynamically add, remove, and configure layers, with each layer having its own independent data view that can connect to any data table in an analysis. And along dynamic data views, we are also adding support for dependent data views in visualization modes, meaning that a visualization mode can contain a parent level view, for example some summary rows, and then automatically retrieve detailed data scoped to a specific row or category. And with both dynamic data views and dependent data views for visualization mods, we should see a whole new generation of more powerful mods, enabling fully user driven, multilayered custom visualizations. So stay tuned in this area. So that was what's new in Spotfire Analytics. Now let's move on to Spotfire Industry Pro. As you may know by now, we renamed Spotfire Data Science to Spotfire Industry Pro. We think it better reflects what this new Spotfire product is becoming and who is it it is built for. We think Spotfire Industry Pro well represents a clear commitment to industrial analytics and a clearer indication of where we are going with this product. Spotfire Industry Pro is a new Spotfire product that is designed for engineers, domain experts, and scientists working in industries like semiconductors, high-tech manufacturing, and energy to help them better analyze complex operational data so they can make faster decision. They can run better operations by bringing industrial data, advanced analytics, and AI together in one industrial analytics environment. Spotfire Industry Pro extends Spotfire Analytics with industry specific visuals, workflows, advanced statistics and machine learning. It includes Spotfire Analytics and Statistica Industries Trusted Algorithms and give these experts the advanced analytical capabilities they need to understand massive datasets, investigate anomalies in processes and make better operational decisions. In 14.8 statistical analytics is a major addition to Spotfire Industry Pro, native access to statistical algorithms directly inside Spotfire. Starting with 14.8 and also available as a service pack for 14.6 LTS, we now expose statistical analytics in Spotfire Industry Pro. That means advanced statistical and machine learning techniques can now be executed without having to export data to another tool, without building pipelines externally, without leaving the analytics environment. This is about industry grade statistics techniques with trusted algorithms used in a regulated environment available in Spotfire Industry Pro. And the initial set of algorithms covers four main areas with over 20 algorithms, data transformations, including things like box clock box clocks transformations to transform non normal dependent variables into normal shape, machine learning with classification and regulation techniques such as boosted trees, random forest, feature selection and scoring and validation. It includes statistics with descriptive statistics, correlation tests, normality tests, quality control charts, principal components, and non parametric methods, and it includes time series analytics such as auto or cross correlations, and smoothing transformations. And Spotfire Industry Pro can run all these advanced statistical and machine learning techniques natively inside the platform. So when you need robust statistical techniques inside your governed data analysis workflows, you have now that capability natively available. And we have an upcoming webinar specifically on that topic planned, I believe, the next coming days. So stay tuned on this. Next we are introducing a new reference element type called statistics layers, which allows to display calculated statistics directly inside the visualization. In practice, this means you can compute any expression and display that value or multiple values directly where the data is plotted. And this is not static text, These statistical layers are fully dynamic and context aware. They adapt to splits by categories, to filtering, to tracing, just like in user reference layers. And you can control their positions, their alignments, the formatting of the values, the styling. So they work great both on the data analysis context or for more polished analytics applications. We think this will help make analytics more self explanatory. And like I said, it also makes applications cleaner and easier to understand instead of looking at charts and then use tables or text areas to look at calculated metrics. These numbers can now be embedded directly within the visual context. Seal on reference elements. In this release, we are removing an important limitation in reference elements. Until now, if you wanted to display different targets or threshold per category, you needed a categorical or binned x axis. We are removing these requirements. With Spotfire Industry Pro 14.8, reference elements now support continuous x axis, such as time or numeric values. And I believe the impact of this will be quite significant as you can now display different target lines, control limits, benchmark or reference bands plotted over time. Or you can create new advanced types that were simply not possible before. For instance, here on the right in this this is a CP zone chart that is used to evaluate process capabilities. The capability zones here are not flat horizontal bands, they are calculated boundaries that change depending on the mean value to show process capability performance regions derived from specifications. This is an example of chart that can be very helpful when it comes to tools, comparison or process window analysis for instance. So with continuous x axis support for reference elements, you can now draw intelligence, calculation driven reference regions over time or over numeric scales. And this allows Spotfire to support even more realistic industrial scenarios where limits are not necessarily universal or static, but context dependent. Now we have also a bunch of new add ons for Spotfire with new visuals and new actions. First, with the task and resource timeline visualization. This is an advanced timeline chart designed for operational planning and asset tracking scenarios. You can think of it as an evolution of a traditional Gantt chart, adding support for resource and task centric views, dependencies between tasks. It has a precise time scale down to the second. It has some advanced time range navigation as well. This is a chart that is especially relevant when tracking activities over time across assets or teams. So if you need an advanced operational timeline visualization, Spotfire has a purpose built solution to that, and it is available for Spotfire and later. Another visualization add on, now available, is the steel diagram. That's a scientific chart for geochemists and hydrogeologists to compare water ion concentrations. You have cations plotted on the left and anions plotted on the right, and the resulting shape represents the ionic composition of a water sample. And when you compare multiple samples, can identify water types and mineralization levels with, I think, white white polygons indicating more mineralized water and narrow shapes indicating fresher water. Next we have a set of action add ons also available to Spotfire Industry Pro. First with the petrophysics calculator. This is an action designed for geoscientists and petrophysicists working with subsurface data. It enables formation evaluation calculations directly from within Spotfire, supporting petrophysical metrics calculations such as the volume of shell, porosity, total organic carbon to help interpret subsurface rock properties and identify potential productive areas. And these calculations can be executed from a simple action inside Spotfire now. We also have the analyze well trajectory action. This action enables engineers to visualize and assess directional drilling data. Again, with a single action here, it automatically generates an analysis that includes coordinated two d and three d visualizations of well passes and geometry. So instead of configuring manually multiple visuals, this sets up for you a ready to use analytical workspace for geologists or petroleum engineers to evaluate wellbore placements, to assess trajectory quality and compare actual versus planned wells, all within one integrated view. And we have one more action add on with the well log templates action. This one provides quick access to industry standard well log layouts, automatically generating multi track well log displays as commonly as commonly used in petrophysical analysis. It detects low curves from last files, and it applies appropriate formatting automatically. So here again, instead of manually configuring multiple tracks and curves, you get a ready made standardized well laid out in seconds. For subsurface teams this means faster setup and more consistent interpretation of the data. That was what's new in Industry Pro. Now moving on to Spotfire Enterprise. As a reminder, Spotfire Enterprise is our product that allows enterprise to scale their analytics operations while maintaining security and efficiency with capabilities like analysis and application sharing, collaboration, governance, integration and extensibility, automation of data and calculations refresh, report scheduling, and so on. Spotfire Enterprise is is all the Spotfire services bundled as one product. I mean, Spotfire server, automation services, statistics services, consumer, and statistical server. In 14.8, we are adding more control around data exports in the web client. We observed enterprise customers want stricter control over data movements, especially in regulated environments or consumption only environments. In Fortunate and also available as a service pack for 14.6 LTS, administrators now have more precise control over how users can export data. We are introducing two new license feature to enable or disable exporting data from data tables in analysis and exporting data to LiveWorld. These two new licenses allow organizations to enforce controlled usage models in the WebClient. WebClient users can still interact with the data, the analysis and consume insights as usual, but exporting raw or unintended data can now be restricted. Spotfire also provides more flexibility for scheduling analysis preloads and update jobs with much more granular and flexible recurrence rules. For example, jobs can now be scheduled every fifteen minutes, hourly, weekly, monthly, or even every two weeks. Scheduled schedules can also be restricted to specific work workdays, weekdays, or specific days of the month with configurable repeat patterns. And in addition to these, time windows can be defined, meaning jobs are only allowed to run during specific hours for instance. Overall, this is a much more precise control of when and how analysis are refreshed. Next an important platform update, starting with Spotfire. The Spotfire web player and automation services supports .net8. Net 10 running on Linux distributions, Debian, Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Dot net 10 is Microsoft's latest long term support release, and this is to ensure that Spotfire remains current and aligned with Microsoft's supported runtime stack and enterprise lifecycle expectations. There are two important implications to this. First, the support for dot net eight has been removed. Second implications for customers running dot net based extensions, they may need, you may need to recompile and validate your extensions against, dot net 10. So that was what's new in our upcoming release, 14.8. 14.8 is expected to be GA available later this month as an innovation release. A quick reminder about our release cycle, 14.6 is our current long term support release that we released in November, supported for four years. And Spotfire 14.8 will be an innovation release. Innovation releases are more frequent and they deliver incremental values between the LTS milestones. And in addition to our early product release cycle, as you saw in my presentation today, we continuously ship value and enhancements with new visualizations, actions, data functions outside of the product release cycle as add ons or through service packs. And to summarize what we've covered today, I think we are strengthening our platform across our three products there. First, deeper analytics credibility for Spotfire Industry Pro, with native statistical algorithms, statistical layers inside visualizations, more flexible reference elements. We continue to expand the analytical depths directly inside industry workflows. Faster and smoother workflows from one click Trellis marking, Trellis paging to this new modernized visualization, the tooling experience, and refinements to call in management. This release removes frictions in your day to day analytical work. And also stronger foundations for enterprise and extensibility, improved governance controls, more flexible scheduling, modernized connectivity, dot net 10 support, and continued investments in the MODS framework all reinforce Spotfire as a scalable, extensible, enterprise ready platform. And along that, of course, Spotfire Industry Pro continues to expand with highly specialized domain specific visualizations and actions that strengthen the product for expert driven industries. Thanks for listening. Perfect. Well, thank you very much for that presentation, Anu. Very insightful.
